Laura set up Swimbabes in 2003 – a company dedicated to helping babies swim. Swimbabes has grown to help babies across the North of England learn the essential life skill of swimming. Laura’s positive experiences taking her son Joshua to baby swimming lessons in Manchester prompted her to set up Swimbabes, with one of her first baby swimmers being her 5 week old daughter Eve.
What do you enjoy about teaching babies to swim?
I enjoy watching parents spend precious time guiding their little ones and the delight when they achieve key skills, it’s great to be part of the joy of parents seeing how much their little ones can achieve in the water at such a young age.

The Happy Nappy – it does an essential job and I think it looks really smart on our little swimmers.

This is a staggering number when you consider that swimming is part of the National Curriculum. Knowing how to swim can save your life but the other benefits are clear too; it aids physical, social and emotional development for babies and parents alike.”
What do you enjoy about teaching babies to swim? Even though I have been teaching babies to swim since 2003, I still get such a buzz seeing babies become great little swimmers as they progress through our swim program. As well as being qualified to teach Swimbabes classes, I am qualified to teach our Swimstars program for older children. I feel it’s so important to be able to teach skills that promote water confidence and water safety whilst having fun at the same time. Being able to teach these invaluable skills is so rewarding and worthwhile.

What do you enjoy about teaching babies to swim?
I love to see my little swimmers progress through the levels and become confident, independent swimmers. My son and daughter have gone through our programme and are fantastic little swimmer’s! The satisfaction I get knowing I am teaching a life skill is so rewarding.

What do you enjoy about teaching baby swimming? I love seeing parents and children having fun together in the water. It’s also really rewarding to watch the children develop through the programme into confident swimmers with an important life skill.

What do you enjoy about teaching babies to swim?
I enjoy seeing the progression from their first lessons to confident little children in the water. I also enjoying seeing the bond between parents and their babies in the pool.

This is something I believe to be an amazing life skill, as a parent of two who are going through the Swimbabes programme the skills they have learnt will be with them for life, and being a swim teacher knowing I am making a lasting impact on a child’s life and has been part of there swimming journey makes being a swim teacher worth while.

This for me has to be the warm in ones as before joining Swimbabes I didn’t know these existed and now love seeing little ones warm in these while swimming.

What do you enjoy about teaching children to swim?
I enjoy watching the children’s confidence grow along with their personalities! I enjoy supporting their enjoyment of swimming whilst teaching them a life skill.

My favourite swimming product is the underwater sinking toys as you can jump in to reach the bottom to get them or swim down yourself.

My favourite song is anything from musicals such as Wicked.
What do you enjoy about teaching children to swim?
One of the most special sights is to see the children’s faces when they have grasped a particular task you have helped them to achieve. To see them express how proud of themselves they are – it makes everything so worthwhile!
